🚗 How to Reach Chopta
By Road: Chopta is around 450 km from Delhi and 230 km from Rishikesh, accessible via Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath. The drive is scenic but winding — best done during daylight hours.
By Train: The nearest railway station is Rishikesh (approx. 210 km). From there, you can take a taxi or shared jeep to Chopta.
By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (approx. 220 km). From the airport, drive or hire a cab to Chopta.
By Bus: Regular buses go up to Rudraprayag or Ukhimath. From there, you can take a shared jeep to reach Chopta.

🌦️ Best Time to Visit Chopta & Tungnath
Summer (April–June): Best for trekking and sightseeing. The weather is pleasant, meadows are green, and skies are clear.
Monsoon (July–September): The valley turns lush and vibrant, but be cautious — landslides can occur.
Autumn (October–November): Perfect for photographers — crisp air, golden forests, and snow peaks visible.
Winter (December–March): For snow lovers! Chopta gets covered in snow, and the Tungnath trek becomes a white wonderland (though trekking to Chandrashila may be limited due to snow).

📍 Best Places to Visit
1. Tungnath Temple
The highlight of Chopta — Tungnath is one of the Panch Kedar temples and the highest Shiva temple in the world. The 3.5 km trek from Chopta is moderately easy and passes through stunning meadows, forests, and snow trails in winter.
2. Chandrashila Peak
A 1.5 km trek above Tungnath (total 5 km from Chopta) leads to Chandrashila, meaning “Moon Rock.” From the top, you get a 360° panoramic view of the Himalayas, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and Kedar peaks — truly one of the best viewpoints in India.
3. Deoriatal Lake
Located about 20 km from Chopta (via Sari village), this crystal-clear lake reflects the Chaukhamba peaks. A short 2.5 km trek from Sari takes you there. It’s one of the most scenic spots in Uttarakhand, perfect for photography and camping.
4. Ukhimath
Just 30 minutes from Chopta, Ukhimath is a sacred town and the winter seat of Kedarnath. It houses ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati, surrounded by peaceful mountain scenery.
5. Dugalbitta & Baniyakund
These small meadows near Chopta offer camping spots, sunset views, and birdwatching opportunities — great for those who want to stay closer to nature.
