🌅 Spiritual Significance
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu performed penance here while Goddess Lakshmi protected him by taking the form of a Badri tree (berry tree) — hence the name Badrinath.
It’s believed that visiting Badrinath brings moksha (liberation) and that every Hindu should visit this shrine once in a lifetime.
The temple is also a major stop on the Char Dham Yatra, along with Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
🕍 Main Attractions
1. Badrinath Temple
Built by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD.
Features a colorful façade with a gold-gilded roof.
The black stone idol of Lord Badrinarayan (Vishnu) is seated in a meditative pose inside the sanctum.
Evening Aarti and morning Darshan are deeply spiritual experiences.
2. Tapt Kund
A natural hot water spring near the temple, where pilgrims take a ritual bath before entering the shrine.
3. Narad Kund
Located near Tapt Kund; believed to be the site where the idol of Lord Vishnu was found.
4. Brahma Kapal
A sacred ghat on the Alaknanda River where people perform Shraddha (ancestral rituals).
5. Charan Paduka
A rocky spot 3 km uphill from the temple with footprints believed to be of Lord Vishnu.
6. Neelkanth Peak
Towering behind the temple at 6,597 meters, it’s known as the ‘Garhwal Queen’ and offers a mesmerizing backdrop at sunrise.

By Air: Nearest airport – Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun, 317 km)
By Train: Nearest railway station – Rishikesh (295 km)
By Road: Well connected by road via Joshimath, which is the main stopover.
From Joshimath, it’s a 45 km uphill drive to Badrinath.
By Helicopter: Services available from Dehradun, Gauchar, or Joshimath.

May – June: Pleasant weather and peak pilgrimage season.
September – October: Clear skies, less crowd, perfect for photography and peace seekers.
Avoid: Monsoon (July–August) due to landslides and road closures.

Carry warm clothes, even in summer — temperatures drop below 5°C at night.
Acclimatize properly before visiting to avoid altitude sickness.
Roads are narrow and winding — keep motion sickness medicine handy.
